Hiking and cycling

A network of footpaths, each marked by different coloured posts, will lead you to some of the most exquisite parts of the region. These vary in length from 2 to 10 kilometres. These waymarked trails are accompanied by information signs. and also marked on special walking maps available from Tourist Information Offices and Limburg Shops throughout the region. Four new walking maps were published in 2008: Grensmaasvallei, Parkstad Limburg, Heuvelland-Oost and Heuvelland-West.

Thematic walks
Much can be said about the unique flora and fauna of the region, its historic monuments, its rich past and intriguing population. To this end, we have developed a large number of detailed walking trails throughout the region.

Walking in neighbouring Belgium and Germany
In terms of walking routes, Zuid-Limburg has few connections with the rest of the Netherlands, being surrounded on most sides by Belgium and Germany. Why not discover the delights of this fascinating border region on foot? We have some interesting ‘Border Booklets’ available.

Long-distance footpaths
Zuid-Limburg also has some well-known long-distance footpaths.

Nordic Walking
The town of Beek is home to Limburg's first ever Nordic Walking Park. There are 4 Nordic Walking routes. See: www.nordicwalkinglimburg.nl.

Network of cycle routes
For cyclists, we have developed a complete network of cycling routes. This ingenious complex of cycle routes enables you to cycle your way around the region using the route numbers provided. Maps showing this network of routes are available from Zuid-Limburg Tourist Information Offices (VVV).

Thematic cycling tours
In addition to this network of cycle routes, we have also put together a variety of thematic cycling tours in Zuid-Limburg.

Classic cycling tours
Zuid-Limburg is renowned at home and abroad for its many unique cycle-racing competitions, such as the World Cycling Championships, the Tour de France, the Amstel Gold Race, Limburgs Mooiste, etc. We have marked the routes of these races on a map, so that you can cycle these at your leisure.

Cycling in neighbouring Belgium and Germany
The neighbouring regions of Germany and Belgium can also be discovered by bike from Zuid-Limburg. We have several informative maps available should you wish to do this

ATB routes in Zuid-Limburg
Of course, Zuid-Limburg also has an extensive way marked network of routes for ATB cyclists. Local ATB clubs have compiled the best routes for you.

Bicycles for hire
There are many addresses of companies that rent out and/or sell bicycles and accessories.
